Permelia Black Miller
The Jacob Miller Home is located near New Hope, Kentucky (actually near Gleanings, Kentucky). Jacob Miller Jr inherited the land from his father and acquired great wealth in slaves and land through the years. In 1863 he built a large two-story brick residence. The bricks were fired nearby and the work on the house was done of slave labor. The woodwork and carvings in the home are beautiful. Mrs Hardin Miller is owner of this beautiful home, containing many antiques, and lives there today. (Information from "Historic Nelson County" by Sarah B Smith, 1971).
Permelia and her husband, Benjamin Hardin Miller, Jr were the last Pottinger kin that lived in that house which is still standing (Benjamin died in 1966, Permelia died in 1987). It was sold outside the family in 1987.
